EAGLE PC+XL
*CUSTOMER REPORTS* of INCOMPATIBILITY with Above Boards and Matched
Memory Classic.
One user reported that to get ANY expanded memory board to work in this
system it's necessary to solder wires on the Eagle PC+XL motherboard at
very specific locations.
If a customer has already purchased an Above Board or Matched Memory
Classic and would like to try this DANGEROUS approach, they would need
to contact an Eagle service representative for the exact locations, we
do not have any record of these locations.
EAGLE SPIRIT I
*CUSTOMER REPORTS* of INCOMPATIBILITY with Above Boards and Matched
Memory Classic.

EAGLE SPIRIT II
*CUSTOMER REPORTS* of INCOMPATIBILITY with Above Boards and Matched
Memory Classic.
One user reported that to get ANY expanded memory board to work in this
system it's necessary to solder wires on the Eagle PC+XL motherboard at
very specific locations.
If a customer has already purchased an Above Board or Matched Memory
Classic and would like to try this DANGEROUS approach, they would need
to contact an Eagle service representative for the exact locations, we
do not have any record of these locations.
EPSON EQUITY I
Compatible with current Above Boards and Matched Memory Classic. This
computer is a PC compatible running at 4.77 MHz. We also have reports
that the discontinued Above Board 286, PS/286, PC, & PS/PC are also
compatible with this computer.
System must have ROM BIOS Ver. 2.20 to use an Above Board or Matched
Memory Classic.
Tech Notes: If user has RTCDEV.SYS installed, (Epson's clock driver),
it must come BEFORE EMM.SYS in the CONFIG.SYS!
If an Above Board or Matched Memory Classic will be filling out
conventional memory from 256-640K, set the motherboard switches 1-5 as
follows - on off off on on. This tells the system that the motherboard
has 256K on it and could be different if motherboard has 512K.
This system's hard disk ROM BIOS resides at C8000-CB000. This
interferes with the expanded memory page frame if it is located in
lower part of the C0000 segment. Try using CC00 for EMM's page frame
in systems with a hard disk.
EPSON EQUITY IE
*CUSTOMER REPORTS* that this 8086-based computer is INCOMPATIBLE with
current Above Boards and Matched Memory Classic. A common symptom is
the system won't boot with an Above Board or Matched Memory Classic
installed.
The Equity IE is an XT-compatible using an 8086-10 CPU, built-in VGA,
no switches or jumpers to set on the motherboard. Probably not
compatible with the discontinued Above Board PC and PS/PC because of
bus speed issues.
EPSON EQUITY I PLUS
*CUSTOMER REPORTS* of compatibility with current Above Boards and
Matched Memory Classic.
Tech Notes: This is an XT-compatible computer that can run at 4.77 and
10MHz. Customers report that the discontinued Above Board 286, PS/286
also work fine. Probably not compatible with the discontinued Above
Board PC and PS/PC due to the higher speed.
EPSON EQUITY II & ABS
*CUSTOMER REPORTS* of compatibility with current Above Boards and
Matched Memory Classic. Customers report compatibility with the
discontinued Above Board 286 and PS/286 also.
Tech Notes: The Equity II is an NEC V20-based system that can run at
either 4.77 or 7.6MHz. Customers report that an Above Board PC and
PS/PC will work at the 4.77MHz speed ONLY. Above Board PC and PS/PC
may have problems at high speed. Must have jumpers J1 and J2 in
Position 2 in order for machine to recognize expansion boards.
System uses an NEC V20 processor instead of an 8088 or 8086. You
cannot use BOTH an 8087 and an Above Board or Matched Memory Classic in
the system together. At one point we heard Epson discussing an upgrade
to allow both an 8087 and expanded memory to operate together in this
computer, but we don't know the final status on this issue. The
customer would need to contact Epson for upgrade status.
EVEREX 1600B
*CUSTOMER REPORTS* of compatibility with current Above Boards and
Matched Memory Classic. The Everex 1600B is an 8088-based system that
is 4.77/12MHz switchable. The discontinued Above Board PC and PS/PC
will fail at the 12MHz speed.
Everex's phone number is ph: (415) 498-1115
IBM 3270 PC
Compatible with current Above Boards, Matched Memory Classic, and the
discontinued Above Board PC and PS/PC.
Tech Notes: 3270 Control programs use LOTS of conventional memory.
This may affect Lotus 123 Rel 2.x and other programs that need
conventional memory to address expanded memory.
If using the QUIKBUF print buffer, put QUIKBUF AFTER 3270 control
programs in the AUTOEXEC.BAT file.
With the 3270 control programs turned OFF, the 3270 PC functions as a
normal PC/XT.
IBM 3270 PC W/ EXPANSION BOX
*CUSTOMER REPORTS* that current Above Boards and Matched Memory Classic
work when installed in the Expansion box attached to a 3270 PC.
** NOTE ** When user runs CHKMEM, he may see less than 640K
conventional if the 3270 software has been loaded.
IBM 3270 PC & TESTAB
Symptom is that TESTAB shows all memory on the Intel Memory Board as
being defective. This is due to a conflict between the TESTAB program
and the 3270PC environment, it does not reflect the actual status of
the board.
Since TESTAB is not reliable in this system, it may prove necessary to
move the Above Board or Matched Memory Classic to another system to
test it.
IBM 3270 PCG
Compatible with current Above Boards, Matched Memory Classic, and the
discontinued Above Board PC and PS/PC.
Use the IBM Graphics Control program version 1.12 or newer when using
expanded memory.
IBM PC-1
Compatible with Above Board ISA, Plus 8, Plus, and the Matched Memory
Classic Boards, as well as the discontinued Above Board 286, PS/286,
PC, and PS/PC.
System motherboard only has 64K. Must fill the motherboard to a
minimum of 256K with another board before using an Above Board ISA to
fill remaining conventional memory. Make sure ALL sockets on any
additional board(s) are full before filling to 544k with any add-in
card. Often this results in 320K. Intel memory cards CANNOT backfill
from 320K, so they should use another board to backfill conventional
memory to either 512K (where the Above Board ISA can start) or all the
way to 640K.
Maximum conventional memory for this system is 544K. System can be
upgraded to allow 640K by replacing the ROM BIOS chip.
IBM PC-2
Compatible with current Above Boards, Matched Memory Classic Boards,
and also compatible with the discontinued Above Board 286, PS/286, PC,
& PS/PC.
IBM PC/XT
These 8088-based computers are compatible with the Above Board ISA,
Plus, Plus 8, and the Matched Memory Classic Boards. Also compatible
with this system are the discontinued Above Board 286, PS/286, PC, &
PS/PC.
Tech Notes:
A no-boot condition can occur if the Above Board ISA is configured for
I/O address 210-217, (as BOARD #4). Refer to the Above Board ISA
installation guide for information on setting the switches for the I/O
address.
IBM PORTABLE PC
Compatible with current Above Boards, Matched Memory Classic Boards,
and also compatible with the discontinued Above Board 286, PS/286, PC,
& PS/PC.
IBM XT 370
Compatible with current Above Boards, Matched Memory Classic Boards,
and also compatible with the discontinued Above Board 286, PS/286, PC,
& PS/PC.
IBM PS/2 MODEL 25
Compatible with current Above Boards and the Matched Memory Classic
boards, (although NOT compatible with the discontinued Above Board PC
and Above Board PS/PC because of the higher bus speeds).
This 8086-based computer operates at 8MHZ. It's an educational version
of the Model 30, and since it has only one disk drive INSTALL or
SOFTSET cannot be used. To open the system, you must turn it on its
side and the bottom swings away from the chassis. There are 2 slots.
The outside slot is for half boards and the inside slot is for full
length boards. Place the Intel memory board in the inside slot and move
the disk controller to the outside slot.
IBM MODEL 30
This 8086-based computer is compatible with the Above Board ISA, Plus,
Plus 8, and the Matched Memory Classic boards. Also with the
discontinued Above Board 286 & PS/286. The discontinued Above Board PC
and PS/PC are NOT compatible because of the higher bus speed (8MHZ).
The discontinued Above Board AT and PS/AT are NOT compatible because
they are 16bit ONLY cards and the IBM Model 30 only has an 8bit bus.
Installation procedures:
1. Use the PC Selection Plug on the Intel memory card or set switch #4
on the Above Board ISA to Off.
2. Run Setboard and specify a Model 30 system.
3. They need 4.0 EMM for Install to work properly. If they have a
pre-4.0 EMM, they will need to do a manual install.
4. Parity errors will not be caught by power-on test with EMM 3.5 so
be sure user is aware of this. Send them EMM 4.0.
Tech Notes:
Quarterdeck's QRAM v2.0 in the IBM Model 30 requires the NOXBDA
parameter on the QRAM.SYS device driver line in the CONFIG.SYS file.
NOXBDA stands for No Extended BIOS Data Area. If the NOXBDA parameter
is not present, QRAM will attempt to relocate it resulting in a system
lockup. MOVE'EM from Qualitas may have a similar command.
IBM 3270 PC & QUIKBUF
Put Quikbuf AFTER 3270 control programs in Autoexec.bat file.
